Throughout the Series[]

Season 1[]

The teenagers in New Ham are about to head out for a camping trip that will take them away from the town for a week. However, it's short-lived. After departing by bus, the students end up returning to town, being told that the road to the camp is blocked. However, it's late, and no one is there to pick them up. Returning home the kids soon quickly discover that no one is home. Everyone else, aside from them, has disappeared from the town. The kids try to go back to their normal lives as best as possible, but it's harder on some than others. Sam and Becca stick together through it all, becoming an investigative duo as they attempt to uncover what happened. Although Becca is not deaf, she talks to Sam by speaking and signing.

Becca and Sam go through old photographs of the town, looking for any sort of clues, but then Becca runs out of the building and throws up in a nearby bush. Shortly after they find out that Becca is indeed pregnant. Short after Cassandra's death Gordie, Will, Becca, Sam, Luke, and Grizz basically force Allie into taking on Cassandra's role in leading the town, even though she's scared she'll end up dead too.

Later Becca and Sam talk about her pregnancy, and she's not exactly thrilled about it, but there's nothing she can do, it's not like there's an OBGYN in West Ham anymore she could go to. Sam asks about the father and Becca grows visibly upset over the question, and refuses to answer him. She says that she never wants him to ask about the father again. During prom, Sam asks Becca about her baby's real father and she got very defensive. In fact, she demanded he never asks her that question again.

Few days later Sam goes back to talk to Becca again, and for the first time, she feels the baby kick. Once again, Sam asks about the father of her baby, and she refuses to answer. She later reveals to Sam that the father is from someone outside of West Ham and that no one knows him. This seems a little convenient, and a way to keep him from asking any more questions. Still pressing, Sam decides that he should be the father, and Becca should tell people that. At first, she's upset because she doesn't want Sam to commit to something he doesn't want to do. But, he insists that he wants a family himself and she agrees to this arrangement.

There is a medical clinic in West Ham and Kelly is going to take on the role of nurse for Becca. For some reason, she tries the sonogram machine out on herself, while rubbing the wand over her stomach and looking at the monitor. Kelly later brings Becca by the clinic to do an ultrasound on her, showing her the baby for the first time. Duck Whilst Sam and Grizz sleep together for the first time, Becca begins to feel unwell and attempts to contact Sam. Afterwards, Grizz notices several texts on Sam's phone, and Sam leaves immediately. Later, Grizz sees Sam and Becca in the hospital and finds out about the baby. Sam lies to Grizz saying that he and Becca would often have sleepovers and that they were lonely and decided to sleep together. Grizz dismisses this and their secret relationship comes to a stop. Duck People are shocked to know that Sam and Becca are having a baby together as Sam is well known to be gay. When Kelly confronts Becca about her pregnancy and Becca names Sam as the father for the first time, Kelly accepts Becca's answer pretty much without question. From then on, just about everybody else does the same. Only Grizz is upset by the idea of Sam having slept with his best friend, since he and Sam had just had sex themselves. Rather than defend himself to Grizz by saying he's not really the father because he and Becca didn't have sex, Sam holds firm on his promise to Becca, refusing to deny his role in the baby's life. Goose...you have to fix this...if you donā€™t. This will be gone... lol just kidding, but u do have to fix it

When Sam tells Gwen that he's the father of Becca's baby, she responds with a surprised but fairly nonchalant, "Huh. OK." After she turns away, she says to Madison doubtfully, "What? You know he's gay." Madison checks her. "Sexuality is fluid, Gwen," and no one says any more about it. Despite the baby almost impacting on his relationship with Grizz, Sam stands by his best friend and promises to be there for her and "their" baby for as long as they may live. Becca gives birth to a healthy baby girl who they name Eden Gelb.

Personality[]

Screen Shot 2020-05-11 at 11.06

Becca is mature, tough and adventurous, yet always on the outside looking in. She is fiercely herself and can fight the urge to simply be like the other teenagers and party or get swept up in the drama. She is headstrong and never lost sight of her job or her goal as she searched for answers in the mayor's office. Moreover, she is hardworking and hates being idle or feeling like she is being codled which mixed badly with the fact that she was pregnant. Though Becca is tough and brave, the prospect of being a mother is still quite terrifying to her.

Becca is very aware of her image as a pregnant teenager/teenage mother and thus, works hard to forestall any sort of judgment or criticism from her peers before they can arise.

Quotes[]

ā€œ For ten days now we locked ourselves in our houses...and cried ourselves to sleep. Asked, "What is this place that looks like home?" And, "Why are we here?" What we know for certain is that the sun came up not too long ago, at 5:41 a.m. Which is how it should be, heading towards the summer solstice. But at the train station, the 7:10 to New York never arrived. Neither did the 7:25. No trains arrived yesterday. Or the day before. Or the day before that. Some people believed that we would wake up from this, and the dream would be over, and that everything would, again, be like it was before. Ten days is a long time to believe that. But the sun just keeps coming up...every day, and you can't cry forever. You have to put your shoes on, you have to eat, you have to have hope. Don't you? Because who knows? Maybe tomorrow. ā€
ā€” Becca[src]
ā€œ I heard they [ The Guard ] dragged him [Greg Dewey] out of his bed butt naked. ā€
ā€” Speaking with Sam after the arrest[src]
ā€œ Six months ago, we were children. This is who we are now. We eat and live communally. We even sweat communally. This is all according to Cassandra's rules. Now, they are Allie's rules as well. A midnight curfew, mandatory weekly town meetings, and the community doctrine: those who don't work... don't eat. We found a balance between doing what's expected of us and finding happiness where we can. In love, or in sex, or play. We waffle between following the rules and bending them, constantly worrying that if we bend too far, this whole rickety structure might topple and break. Because we know that we're always one dumb move away from ruin. ā€
ā€” Becca's opening voice over[src]
ā€œ In the town where we live the sun set today at 8:47 p.m. Summer solstice. Long days. But our nights are about to get a lot longer. ā€
ā€” Becca's closing voice over[src]
